GenCon - 2017

Gen Con is the original, longest-running gaming convention in the world. With 500+ exhibiting companies from the game industry, award-winning authors and artists, costumed attendees, more than 19,000 events, a Family Fun Pavilion, and the debut of exciting new games, Gen Con truly is The Best Four Days in Gaming™!

This year was the first time Mattel had a booth at the Con in almost a decade so we decided to come back in style. Our flagship game for the return was Wizards Wanted but we had a strong focus on all of our strategy games we have released over the last 5 years. When we decided to come back in a BIG way we decided to do so literally. With a giant 4-foot three-dimensional Wizards Wanted board and LARGE game movers from several of our games displayed around the booth.

I felt a real sense of ownership over the booth because I got to design all of the elements of our presence. Wall graphics, t-shirts, advertisements, the booth and I directed and designed our flagship games.

The "Will Work For Pixie Dust" t-shirts which really made us stand out in the booth and turned us into walking billboards as we walked around the rest of the convention.

Thanks to Pierô and Djib – I designed the walls that surrounded our booth using their illustrations to really bring the people into the world of the games they helped us create.

I really want to give a shout out to all of the people who visited GenCon. I go to a lot of conventions but I think that this is really one of the friendliest conventions I have been to. The gaming community certainly has it's characters, but everyone I interacted with inside and outside our booth was kind, engaging, and interesting to speak with.

On a final note, I want to give one final thank you to Jimmy. Jimmy and his friends asked me to sign their copy of Ghost Fightin' Treasure Hunters which was really flattering as nobody has ever asked me to sign their game for them before. Sometimes I feel my role on the games is a little invisible so this felt really cool for me. Guys, I hope to see you at our booth again next year!
